What are foldable straws called?

Collapsible or folding straws, mostly. Searching "foldable straw" is a mess, because most of what comes back is hats and baskets made of straw material. Adding "reusable" or "metal" sorts the results out immediately, and it is the fastest fix for a search that seems to return nothing useful. "Portable straw" and "travel straw" turn up the same category of product under yet another name, which is part of why the naming around this category feels more confusing than the product itself.

What is the difference between a collapsible and a telescoping straw?

A telescoping straw is rigid segments that slide into each other to get shorter, similar to a car antenna. A collapsible straw is a single flexible tube that folds or coils down into a case. Telescoping gives you more seams where the segments meet, and seams are where residue tends to sit no matter how well you clean them. Collapsible gives you fewer seams, but the material has to stay flexible through thousands of folds or the tube stops closing properly and starts cracking at the fold line.

What are reusable straws made of?

Metal, silicone, glass, bamboo, and combinations of those. Each one trades something for something else: metal carries hot and cold temperature without changing the taste of a drink, silicone is gentler against teeth and doesn't clink against a glass, glass shows you at a glance that it's clean but breaks if it's dropped on tile, and bamboo is the most compostable of the four but wears out fastest and can pick up flavors from strong drinks over repeated use. None of the four is strictly better; each one is the right answer for a different priority.

What is a wearable straw called?

Most often a "straw bracelet" or "wearable straw," and it's a separate category from collapsible and telescoping straws even though it also solves a portability problem. Instead of folding or sliding to get smaller, a wearable straw skips the size question entirely by living inside something you already wear, so there's nothing to fold, no case to carry, and no seam from a folding mechanism to clean around.

What is a "boba straw" or "smoothie straw"?

Names for a wide-bore straw, built specifically for drinks with something solid moving through them: tapioca pearls, fruit chunks, ice. A standard straw is sized for liquid alone, and a boba pearl simply won't pass through one; the difference is purely internal diameter, not material or length. If your drink of choice regularly has solids in it, checking bore width matters more than checking material, since even the best metal straw in a narrow gauge will clog the same way a narrow plastic one does.
